Workshop: Mordançage with Patty Schoelkopf-Lewis
Saturday & Sunday, October 24 and 25, 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Mordançage is an alternative darkroom process that lifts and moves the emulsion on a black and white silver gelatin print. The results are one-of-a-kind prints with veils, drips, and raised texture. On the first day you'll print your own negatives and start the process. On the second, you'll put your prints through the mordançage process. Some basic darkroom experience is helpful.
Bring: A few developed black and white negatives. Simple images with strong blacks work best. All other materials are provided.
About the Instructor
Patty Schoelkopf-Lewis is a photographer and educator based on Hilton Head Island, SC. She has taught photography for 30 years at Hilton Head Island High School. She has taught mordançage since 2008, after learning it from Susan Laney, and her students have won national and regional awards for their mordançage work. She shows in at least three juried exhibitions a year. Her work is on view now at Jacksonville University, Central Wyoming College, and the Florence Alliance Small Works show.

Bonaventure Cemetery Photo Walk
Join the Savannah Center for Photography for a morning photo walk through Bonaventure Cemetery. We start at 8:00 am, while the light is still low and soft and comes through the live oaks and Spanish moss. You'll have time to wander, work slowly, and photograph the sculpture, ironwork, and river views that have drawn photographers here for more than a century.
Any camera is welcome: film, digital, or phone. All skill levels are welcome too. SCP board members will be on hand to answer questions and share ideas.
Your registration covers the city's event fee, and anything extra supports SCP's darkroom and programs.
Cost: $10 suggested, pay what you can. No one turned away.
Meet: Main gate at 7:55 am. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
Please remember: Bonaventure is an active cemetery. Stay on paths, don't touch or lean on monuments, and give families and services plenty of space.

Class: Intro to Darkroom with Steve Bliss
In this 2-day class Steve will demonstrate and discuss traditional black and white printmaking. He will address utilizing diverse film formats, creating both contact sheets and enlargements, evaluating and controlling contrast, making informed paper choices, tray paper processing and archival washing. It’s the whole enchilada! Students will then be able to produce their own print on day 2 in the darkroom with Steve's guidance.

CLASS: FILM SCANNING 101
Learn to scan film negatives and slides with Joshua Yates. We will cover dust removal and negative preparation, Digital Image Correction and Enhancement, scanner settings, the negative reversal process, and some Adobe Lightroom editing basics. There will be discussion on dedicated film scanners vs "DSLR Scanning" as well as how to build an easy and affordable DIY camera scanning stand.
