Saturdays, October 17 and 24, 1:00 to 3:00 pm

Mordançage is an alternative darkroom process that lifts and moves the emulsion on a black and white silver gelatin print. The results are one-of-a-kind prints with veils, drips, and raised texture. On the first Saturday you'll print your own negatives and start the process. On the second, you'll put your prints through the mordançage process. Some basic darkroom experience is helpful.

Bring: A few developed black and white negatives. Simple images with strong blacks work best. All other materials are provided.

About the Instructor

Patty Schoelkopf-Lewis is a photographer and educator based on Hilton Head Island, SC. She has taught photography for 30 years at Hilton Head Island High School. She has taught mordançage since 2008, after learning it from Susan Laney, and her students have won national and regional awards for their mordançage work. She shows in at least three juried exhibitions a year. Her work is on view now at Jacksonville University, Central Wyoming College, and the Florence Alliance Small Works show.
