Six months in the darkroom: the SCP Local Artist Residency

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, the Savannah Center for Photography is launching its first Local Artist Residency. In 2027, two Savannah-area photographers will each receive six months of our Resident membership: unlimited access to our community darkroom (a $900 value), a free New Member Orientation, and a chance to share what they make at an artist talk at the end of their residency.

The first residency runs January through June 2027. The second runs July through December.

Who should apply

Savannah-area photographers, 18 and older, with something they want to make in the darkroom. All experience levels are welcome, including first-timers. We give special consideration to applicants for whom the cost of membership is a real barrier.

Key dates

  • Applications open: Thursday, October 22

  • Applications close: Sunday, November 15, at 11:59pm

  • All applicants notified by: Monday, November 30

  • Residency begins: January 1, 2027
